That Girl Morning Routine: Your Guide to Starting the Day Right

2/3/20254 min read

Listen, I’ve never been a morning person. I used to hit snooze way too many times, rushing to get ready and barely making it out the door. But I realized that starting my day in chaos was setting the tone for everything that followed—and not in a good way. So, I made some changes, and let me tell you, I’ve never felt more in tune with myself, more confident, or just happier. Now, I want to put you on to the power of starting your day right—because trust me, it makes all the difference.

Journaling

Starting your day with Journaling is like giving your mind a fresh start before the chaos kicks in. I found a journal on Amazon called “The Five Minute Journal” and it truly sets the mood for my day. I start each day on a positive note with my morning gratitude. It sets the tone for what’s top priorities for the day so I can focus on what really matters. There is a spot for daily affirmations which, cheesy or not does help

Speaking life into yourself truly can change your mental mindset. Writing things down can help clear your mind, boost your mood, and give you a fresh perspective on life.

The Everything Shower

A shower doesn’t have to be just a quick rinse—it can be a full-on self-care ritual. The “everything shower” is your chance to reset, refresh, and feel brand new. Start with your favorite body wash and shampoo—pick scents that make you feel happy and energized (coconut, vanilla, citrus, anyone?).

Take it up a notch with aromatherapy. A few drops of essential oils on your shower floor (lavender for relaxation, eucalyptus for a spa vibe, or citrus for a morning boost) will make your bathroom feel like a luxury retreat. Scrub off the stress with a body exfoliator, lather up with a rich conditioner, and maybe even throw in a hair mask.

And of course—music! A shower playlist is essential. Whether you’re vibing to soft acoustic tunes or belting out your favorite pop anthems, music makes the experience ten times better. Step out of the shower feeling fresh, glowing, and that girl energy.

Skincare Routine

Your skincare routine is more than just washing your face—it’s a little love letter to yourself. The basics? Cleanse, tone, moisturize, and SPF (because we are not about premature wrinkles over here).

Find products that work for your skin type. Got dry skin? Look for hydrating cleansers and toners with hyaluronic acid. Oily skin? Try a gentle foaming cleanser and a toner with salicylic acid. And no matter what—never, ever skip moisturizer and sunscreen (yes, even if it’s cloudy).

Your skincare routine isn’t just about looking good; it’s about feeling good. Taking those extra minutes for yourself in the morning can help you feel refreshed, confident, and ready to slay the day.

Get Dressed in a Cute Outfit

What you wear can completely change your mood, so put on something that makes you feel good. Even if you’re just running errands or working from home, a cute outfit sets the tone for a productive, confident day.

Start with comfortable staples—think cozy sweaters, cute jeans, or a flowy dress. Don’t be afraid to play with colors, textures, and accessories. Even a simple outfit can be elevated with fun earrings, a statement belt, or a cute bag.

Fashion should be fun, not stressful! Take inspiration from Pinterest or Instagram, mix and match pieces you love, and most importantly—wear what makes you feel amazing.

Go for a Walk & Listen to Music or a Podcast

Getting outside in the morning is like a natural energy boost. A short walk (even just 10-15 minutes) can wake you up, clear your mind, and give you a moment to just breathe.

Pair it with your favorite playlist or a podcast to make it even better. Music releases dopamine, which literally lifts your mood—so curate a playlist that hypes you up or soothes your soul. If you’re in the mood to learn something new, try a motivational podcast or a fun pop-culture update.

Plus, being outside and soaking up some sunlight (even if it’s cloudy) is so good for your body and mind. Fresh air, movement, and good vibes? Yes, please.

Eat a Nutritious Breakfast

Breakfast is the fuel that gets you going, so make it something delicious and nutritious. No, you don’t have to be a gourmet chef—just keep it simple!

Smoothie bowls? Easy and packed with vitamins. Avocado toast? A classic. Overnight oats? Perfect for busy mornings. Whatever you choose, adding protein (like eggs, Greek yogurt, or nut butter) will help keep you full and energized for longer.

If you’re in a rush, meal prep ahead of time so you’re not scrambling for food in the morning. A good breakfast doesn’t just keep you full—it boosts your focus, energy, and overall vibe for the day.

Make a To-Do List

A to-do list is like a mini roadmap for your day—it helps you stay organized and stress-free. Whether you prefer a digital planner or an aesthetic handwritten list, having a plan makes everything feel more manageable.

Prioritize your top 3 tasks, color-code if you’re feeling extra, and give yourself little rewards when you check things off (because crossing things out is so satisfying). Keeping a running list of things you want to do—not just have to do—can also make your day feel more balanced and fun.

A productive day starts with a plan, and a simple to-do list can make all the difference.

Morning routines don’t have to be perfect, but adding little habits that make you feel good—whether it’s journaling, an everything shower, or just putting on a cute outfit—can totally transform your day. Find what works for you and make your mornings something you actually look forward to!
